Yoga Nidra: Softening The Inner Critic

We all know that voice, the one inside that seems to speak the loudest when we’re already feeling vulnerable. The inner critic often shows up when we make a mistake, feel uncertain, or compare ourselves to others. Sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes it’s sharp, but its message is usually the same: You’re not enough.

In Yoga Nidra, we gently explore a different truth.

This practice, Softening the Inner Critic, is designed to guide you into deep rest and spacious awareness, where the inner critic naturally begins to loosen its grip. Instead of pushing yourself to “be better,” you’re invited to simply be, to experience the warmth, compassion, and acceptance that already exist within you.

Through slow breathwork, body sensing, and soothing visualization, this Yoga Nidra helps shift the mind out of habitual self-judgment and into a state of inner tenderness. When the nervous system unwinds, so does the harshness we often turn against ourselves. You may notice the edges of self-criticism begin to blur, soften, and dissolve into something more spacious.

At the heart of this practice is the resolve:

“I meet myself with kindness.”

This intention isn’t meant to override your feelings or force positivity. Instead, it plants a seed of gentleness, one that grows each time you return to stillness. Over time, this resolve helps reshape the internal dialogue, making room for compassion to take the place of criticism.

You’re welcome to return to this practice anytime you need grounding, comfort, or a reminder that you don’t have to earn your worthiness. The inner critic may always whisper, but your inner kindness can grow strong enough to meet it with softness, patience, and understanding.

If you’re longing for a moment of exhale, a space to release pressure, or a way to reconnect with yourself tenderly—this Yoga Nidra is here for you.
